what are some traditional mexican music groups?
What are any particular older and more traditional Mexican bands? (example genres: Mariachi, marimba, banda, etc) Thanks in advance!

Well, it depends, there are many kinds of traditional music in mexico, depending on the region. the gulf of mexico- on the Veracruz coast, has several styles that sort or relate- and they are the oldest Mexican traditional styles of music because of it’s proximity to Cuba (Spanish landing first in the Caribbean and then landing on the coast of Veracruz)- Son Jarocho and Huapango. Some friends of mine in Santana, CA play Son Jarocho at the Centro Cultural de Mexico. You can youtube them and will see them perform in Fandangos using Jaranas (small guitars with double strings- i think 4 pairs). Anyways, about Banda- well there are a lot who do Narcocorridos (which are ballads telling stories of mafia life)- Tucanas de Tijuana, Los Tigres del Norte, etc… The music of Oaxaca is also beautiful…. I will be checking back to your site because I am doing some research on traditional and electronic music. Greetings, from Salzburg!
