Brazil has some traditional musical styles, but, three are most important:

(1) Chorinho or Chôro;
(2) Samba;
(3) Sertanejo or Caipira.

Chorinho is a traditional brazilian music from the begining of 1900's. It is played with flute or clarinet, tamborine, some times a piano, and classic accoustic guitar (two, one with six and other with seven strings), mandolim and a mini accosutic guitar wit four strings called "cavaquinho".

Besides "chorinho" means little cry, it's a funny style, which make you think about happyness and good things.

Samba is a musical style with some variations: (a) Samba for avenue, that you see at carnival parades; (b) samba-canção, a more romantic and slow samba; and, (c) Pagode, very popular. Can be slow and romantic or fast and humoristic.

Sertanejo is the brazilian folk music, and it is played with "violas". Viola is a accoustc guita-like, but, with 8 strings. Two violas, in general for making a pair, a couple of "violeiros".

Chorinho and Samba was born in Rio de Janeiro and derived from chorinho, while Sertanejo, is a traditional country music from rural ares of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, two great states of Brasil.
